Camp Tuckahoe has been carefully
developed to provide outstanding facilities tailored to meet the
needs of both Cub Scout and Boy Scout campers. Tuckahoe is
used for Cub Scout camping programs for half of the summer camping
season, and used for Boy Scout camping programs the other half of
the summer.
Summer camp is the culmination of an
exciting year in Scouting. It's a time to delight in the
outdoors, to learn news skills, to forge new alliances and to have
fun with friends. From the youngest Cub Scout to the most
experienced Boy Scout, summer camp is the adventure that puts the
"outing" in Scouting.
For Cub Scouts ...
Summer camp experiences will provide boys with
memories that will last a lifetime. Most boys join Cub Scouting
because of outdoor activities. When a boy and his family join Cub Scouting,
they are joining an organization that values the fun and excitement of
experiencing the outdoors. Each Cub Scout pack is encouraged to provide its
youth members with enriching, positive outdoor experiences. Providing
youth members with access to high-quality summer camp programs should be a
top priority for pack leaders.
In
planning its programs for Cub Scouts, the camp seeks to provide
age-appropriate camping experiences that are carefully tailored to the
maturity and ability levels of Cub Scouts. As boys progress in Cub
Scouting, summer camp programs should change to provide the experiences and
challenges that boys want as they grow older and ultimately prepare to
cross-over into Boy Scouting. Programs offered for younger Cub Scouts
are shorter in duration than those offered for Webelos Scouts, for example.
Advancement opportunities at camp also vary by the ages of the Cub Scouts in
camp at that time.
All Cub Scout summer camp programs include
opportunities in shooting sports (BB gun and archery shooting), swimming,
boating, fishing, nature, camping skills, handicrafts, games and much more.
Tuckahoe is home to a state-of-the-art Cub World, where many of the
Cub and Webelos camp program areas are located. With a medieval
castle, frontier fort, Pirate ship and many other cool program features,
Camp Tuckahoe is uniquely equipped to bring the annual camp theme to life
for its Cub Scout campers. In addition, many camp staff member can be
found in costume throughout the camp.

In reviewing Cub Scout summer camp programs,
please keep in mind that Cub Scouts are considered to have advanced to the
next rank at the end of the school year (today's Tiger Cubs are next
summer's Wolf Cub Scouts, etc.)
