Taking Care of Camp Tuckahoe
“A camp stewardship program
starting this year and for the future”
We
invite you to participate in a council program to help care for Camp
Tuckahoe. Maintaining our camp is a large important task, but it can be
made much easier with some more help. We would like to enlist units to
“adopt” a piece of our camp; then once or twice a year visit this facility
and help with its care and maintenance. This would be much like the road
adoptions we all see along our highways. The work can be done by your
unit’s schedule and likely when you are using the camp for a day, weekend or
week.
Our plan is as follows:
We have made up a list of YAAC camp facilities which are
broken down into manageable pieces depending on unit size and abilities.
Each facility or area needs periodic maintenance. We suggest committing to
a facility that will fit for the unit for working during a weekend campout
or a day event. Some of the items could be cared for during summer camp,
but often they may not be available then due to camp usage.
Units will be asked to signup before February 28, 2006.
Some units have already made commitments and all will be coordinated to
avoid duplications. Signup will be made by filling out a project form. You
will get a confirmation since we ask for signups with choices in order of
interest in case there are duplicate requests. Units adopting facilities
will have a notice posted at the facility or on a central list recognizing
their contribution. The adoption would be for a two year period with the
opportunity for renewal or change at that time. When a unit does perform
the service, they are asked to notify Ranger Scott so their service is
recorded. Prior coordination with Camp Ranger will also be needed to
assure camp access for doing any work. Units are asked to try to visit
twice during the year to care for your selected facility. Units are asked
to provide tools and supplies for their service selections. Some materials
like stain or woodchips, the camp may provide. Packs will need sufficient
adult help to work with the younger boys.
Sample Facilities include :
Campsites
Lodges
Program Areas

Pavilions
Trails
Each district has a coordinator for the program. They are
First Capitol – Jeff Richter (938-5786), Indian Steps – Phil Olphin
(235-0938) and Blue and Gray – Bill Grandia (633-5470). Camp Property Chair
is Chuck Zitnick – (266-1491). Any of these individuals or Todd Weidner
(843-0901) can answer questions about the program.
