Cub Scout Leader Pow Wow

When:             Saturday, March 19, 2005

Where:           Central York Middle School

Time:              8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Cost:               $15.00 per person on or before March 10, 2005, $20.00 after March 10, 2005

Fee includes:  Pow Wow CD, patch, Blue & Gold Banquet meal, all the information you can get and all the fun you can have.

What is POW WOW?

Pow Wow is the “College of Cub Scout Leader Skills”!  It is a Cub Scout Leader learning extravaganza.  It is an annual get-together, a conference, a convention, a big fun-filled experience where Cub Scout Leaders increase their knowledge, improve their skills, and gain enthusiastic attitudes about Cub Scouting.  It is a place to meet old friends and make new ones.  It is an opportunity for all Cub Scout Leaders to experience the ideas, fun, and excitement that is the Cub Scout Program.

As a scout leader, you will learn everything from how to:  Fund Your Ideal Year of Scouting, Get your pack to Summer Camp!, and conduct great den & pack ceremonies.  There are classes on songs, games, pack administration, advancement, and much more. 

In addition it’s FUN and GOOD FELLOWSHIP with other leaders from throughout the York-Adams Area Council.  POW WOW IS A BLAST!!!  It only happens once a year.

Scout Store, Exhibit Hall, Midway Displays, and refreshments will be available throughout the day.  Den Chief Training is scheduled throughout the day.

2005 Pow Wow Courses

Pack Program Calendar:  How to set up your pack’s program calendar for the year, starting with Council events, to pack events.

Pack Master:  Learn how to track your unit’s information.  See how Pack Master can increase your unit’s communications and rechartering.

Adult Leader Awards:  The BSA has numerous recognition programs and awards for all leaders.  Come see what you can earn and present to another volunteer.  District Award of Merit?  Religious Awards? BSA Family Awards?

Committee to Pack Relations:  How does a the Pack Committee work, what is its relationship to the Committee Chairman and to the pack?  What should a Pack Committee be doing?

Outdoor Adventure:  All scouts want to be in the outdoors.  We need to keep the promise!  This session will review keeping your pack running through the summer months and going to Summer Camp.  Emphasis will be on developing a Summer Camp Plan, Promotion and Parental Involvement.

How to Use Program Helps:  What is the best kept secret in Scouting?  Program Helps!  Learn how to use the monthly themes and rely on the Program Helps to plan your den and pack meetings.  If your pack has never used Program helps let us show you how.

How to Teach your Scouts those Scouting Skills:  Having trouble teaching knots and other skills?  Let us show you how to teach your scouts.

Scouts with Disabilities:  Scouting is for all Boys.  Learn how to meet their needs and challenge them to the best of their abilities.  Come see what resources are available to help with their scouting experience. 

Games and Songs:  Do you know where and when to use games and songs in your pack/den meetings.  What games and songs are appropriate?  How do you lead them?

Cub Scouting’s 75th Birthday:  Learn the different ways to celebrate this special event and how to earn the special awards for it.

Cub Advancement:  How does it work?  From the Tiger Cub Rank to Webelos and then the Arrow of Light.  How do you track those advancements?

Cubmasters:  Learn how to be the best Cubmaster you can be!  How to run a pack meeting.  What decisions are yours to make and what are the various committees?

The Webelos to Scout Transition:  How to plan for this critical transition in the scouting program.  Learn how to avoid the “culture shock”, ideas and techniques to make the transition smooth.

Funding your ideal year of Scouting:  What pack activities do you have planned?  Summer Camps, Hikes, Sporting Events?  100% Boy's Life?  Packs shouldn't do fund-raisers for re-charter!  Learn how to finance your pack activities.  How to use a budget and help your pack to accomplish its ideal year of Scouting. 

Getting the Word Out - Communication with your pack:  This session will offer organization of the Pack Newsletter, Calendars and Flyers for den and pack.  As well as other ideas on publishing activities and accomplishments.

Den and Pack Ceremonies:  Ceremonies are an important part of the scouting Program.  Learn where to find special ceremonies, when and where to use them in your den and pack program.  How to conduct them.
