2007 Great Wizard Safari Program
Cub Packs, Scout Troops and Venturing Crews will participate in an open program format that allows them to travel from station to station during the day and participate in any special events, as they please. The program will focus on a variety of activities that celebrate the western expansion of the United States of America. There will be a participation award for units to obtain, so Scouts can use the program to fit their goals for the weekend.
Cub Scouts will have a variety of games and activities to participate in throughout the day. Cub Scouts can attend just for the day or camp with their family for the entire weekend in our Family Camping area.
Cub Scouts Events will be Oregon Obstacle Course, Snapping Fishing Station, Rocky Mountain Snow Pass, Fourth of July Picnic, Lazy H Branding, Cowboy Breakfast, Buckin' Broncos, OK Corral, Miner 49er, Larry the Lumberjack, Schoolhouse, Tomahawk Throw, Union Pacific Railroad, Gemstones and Minerals, Fangs and Furs and Leaky Bucket Race.
Boy
Scouts/Webelos units are encouraged to build a covered wagon for each patrol
participating in the program. The wagons can be as plain or fancy as
you wish, just keep patrol spirit in mind. We'll use them as part of
Saturday's program and they'll also lead the pass-in-review for the council
later that evening.
Activities will include Bottle Rockets, Gold Pan Relay, Tin Can Tether Ball Bowling, York Water Company, Museum/Railroad Safety/Model Railroad, Bird Study, Tire Pull (Rope Toss/Knot/Rescue), Fishing, Trolley Walk, Solar Energy/Cooker, York County Conservation Office, DCNR/DEP/Game Commission, Medical Careers, Sling Slot, River Ford (Izaak Walton League), BB & Archery, Map & Compass, PPL/Adams Electric and Buffalo Chip Tossing.
High Adventure at our Tombstone High Adventure Area is for Scouts 14 years of age or older. Boy Scouts must be at least First Class rank or higher to participate. The program will offer a variety of challenging events for the advanced Scouts, Venture Crews and Explorer Posts, but all Scouts are invited to watch the program to see what they can expect in years to come.
Activities will include spar pole climbing, boatswain chair, rope swing across water pit, catapult, obstacle course, monkey bridge across creek, log-rolling water pit, two-man saw, and pole vault over creek.
Trail Grub
On Saturday, all participants will be eating lunch on the trail. They will have a half-hour to eat a bag-style lunch, while traveling from station to station, to keep the program moving. Lunches should be packed and placed on the wagons in the morning with the patrols as they leave to hit the trail.
Play Your Part, Partner
To get units in the western spirit, we are encouraging Scouts and Scouters to dress up in their best western garb for the Saturday program. Costumes can be as simple as a western hat or as elaborate as a full patrol theme. Western-wear ideas: cowboys, Union soldiers, outlaws, bandito, Native Americans, mountain men, prospectors, cavalry, rangers, etc.
You'll Have A Rootin' Tootin' Good Time!
