Units that have FRS hunting camp radios will be able to reach the medical staff on Channel 9. Medical headquarters will be in located in the Town of Deadwood 24 hours a day.  Units needing immediate medical attention in the evening should report to the medical tent or trailer marked in each of the camping areas. In the event of an emergency, leaders may also contact Todd Weidner, the Council Program Director, at (717) 580-0180.  Leaders should always have the camper’s health histories and parental contact information with them.

Q:  What about Poison Ivy?
A:  Wizard Ranch has been sprayed three times this summer to remove poison ivy from the camping, activities and parking fields.  Scouts going into wooded areas should be made aware and be able to identify poison ivy and poison sumac.  If a Scout comes in contact with the poisonous plants, they should wash with warm, soapy water as soon as possible. Calamine location will be for sale and available at the medical headquarters.

Q:  How do we get water?
A:  Drinking water will be at available at the water trucks in the camping areas and also at the Wizard Ranch well.  Units should bring sealed containers with handles and be prepared to carry or cart water back to their campsites.

Q:  How do the Activity Program Passports work?
A: Program passports will be provided at check-in for the participants. As Scouts complete different activities, they will have their passport stamped.  Specific requirements for each passport will be listed on the passport along with instructions on what to do with your completed passports. Completed passports will entitle each participant to a Buffalo pin to be added to their event patch.

Q:  How does parking work?
A: Starting at 4:00 PM on Friday, all vehicles must be removed from the campsites to an established parking lot.  If you choose to park in the permanent parking area, you will be parked in and not able to move your vehicle until 11 AM on Sunday.  The other option is temporary parking, which will be used for the day visitors and those that plan to leave before 11 AM on Sunday.  Parking and security personnel will be directing vehicles to the appropriate lots upon arrival to Wizard Ranch.

Q:  How does the transportation van work?
A:  A handicapped-accessible van with a chair lift will operate a transportation loop for those requiring assistance for getting around.  The van’s operating hours are:  Friday 6 - 10 PM and Saturday from 8 AM until 10:00 PM.

Q:  When are the leader’s meetings?
A: The Boy Scout leaders meeting is Friday at 8:00 PM. The location will be determined and made available to you at check-in, depending on weather conditions.  The Cub Scout opening and leaders' meeting will be at 8:30 AM Saturday morning at the campfire circle.

Q:  How do I find my unit when I arrive and what do I do?
A:  As you check in, maps will be available showing all the unit’s campsite locations.  During the day, the campsite may not be occupied or your unit may be attending camp events, therefore.  parents and leaders should exchange cell phone numbers before arriving at the Wizard Safari. At check-in, the day participants will be directed where to go to start program participation.  Cub Scout day visitors, without a unit, will be combined with other visiting units at the Cub Program tent, beside the Cub area gateway, to form a group.
Q:  In the event of an emergency or lost camper what do we do?
A:   Security and emergency service staff will be at the encampment.  Scouts should always travel with a buddy and Cub Scouts with a parent or den.  In the event of an emergency a siren will be sounded and a representative from each unit will be asked to report to the campfire circle for further instructions.

Q:   How do we check out?
A:  Event staff will be on hand to checkout all camping areas during Sunday’s close down.  We would ask that all units remove their weekend trash and take it with them when leaving camp.   Units unable to dismantle and take down their gateways on Sunday should report to the administration trailer to make arrangements for removal of the Gateways from the Wizard Ranch property.
