Q: What time are the special events?
A: The five special events are
the Native America
Pow-Wow, Colors & Pass-In-Review,
Campfire Program and Religious Services.

Q: How do you find medical help?
A: Medical staff will be traveling
throughout the encampment identifiable in bright green t-shirts and staff
hats. Units that have FRS hunting camp radios will be able to reach the
medical staff on Channel 9. Medical headquarters will be in located in
the Town of Deadwood 24 hours a day. Units needing immediate medical
attention in the evening should report to the medical tent or trailer marked
in each of the camping areas. In the event of an emergency, leaders may also
contact Todd Weidner, the Council Program Director, at (717) 580-0180.
Leaders should always have the camper’s health histories and parental
contact information with them.
Q: What about Poison Ivy?
A: Wizard Ranch has been sprayed three times
this summer to remove poison ivy from the camping, activities and parking
fields. Scouts going into wooded areas should be made aware and be able to
identify poison ivy and
poison sumac. If a
Scout comes in contact with the
poisonous plants, they should wash with warm, soapy water as soon as
possible. Calamine location will be for sale and available at the medical
headquarters.
Q: How do we get water?
A: Drinking water will be at available
at the water trucks in the camping areas and also at the Wizard Ranch well.
Units should bring sealed containers with handles and be prepared to carry
or cart water back to their campsites.
Q: How do the Activity Program Passports work?
A: Program passports will be provided at check-in for the participants. As
Scouts complete different activities, they will have their passport stamped.
Specific requirements for each passport will be listed on the passport along
with instructions on what to do with your completed passports. Completed
passports will entitle each participant
to a Buffalo pin to be added to their event patch.
Q: How does parking work?
A: Starting at 4:00 PM on
Friday, all vehicles must be removed from the
campsites to an established parking lot. If you choose to park in the
permanent parking area, you will be parked in and not able to move your
vehicle until 11 AM on Sunday. The other option
is temporary parking, which will be used for the day visitors and those that
plan to leave before 11 AM on Sunday. Parking and
security personnel will be
directing vehicles to the appropriate lots upon arrival to Wizard Ranch.
Q: How does the transportation van work?
A: A handicapped-accessible van with a chair lift
will operate a transportation loop for those requiring assistance for
getting around. The van’s operating hours are: Friday 6
- 10 PM and Saturday from 8
AM until 10:00 PM.
Q: When are the leader’s meetings?
A: The Boy Scout leaders meeting is Friday at 8:00 PM. The location will be
determined and made available to you at check-in, depending on weather
conditions. The Cub Scout opening and leaders' meeting will be at
8:30 AM Saturday morning at the campfire circle.
Q: How do I find my unit when I arrive and what do I do?
A: As you check in, maps will be available showing all the unit’s
campsite locations. During the day, the campsite may not be occupied
or your unit may be attending camp events, therefore. parents and
leaders should exchange cell phone numbers before arriving at the Wizard
Safari. At check-in, the day participants will be directed where to go to
start program participation. Cub Scout day visitors, without a unit,
will be combined with other visiting units at the Cub Program tent, beside
the Cub area gateway, to form a group.
Q: In the event of an emergency or lost
camper what do we do?
A: Security and emergency service staff will be at the encampment.
Scouts should always travel with a buddy and Cub Scouts with a parent or
den. In the event of an emergency a siren will be sounded and a
representative from each unit will be asked to report to the campfire circle
for further instructions.
Q: How do we check out?
A: Event staff will be on hand to checkout all camping areas during Sunday’s
close down. We would ask that all units remove their weekend trash and
take it with them when leaving camp. Units unable to dismantle and take down their
gateways on Sunday should report to the administration trailer to make
arrangements for removal of the Gateways from the Wizard Ranch property.
