Scouts Prepare to Collect Donated Items
For Shelters in York and Adams Counties

The Good Turn for America Shelter Drive is about to get underway.  In this important part of the York-Adams Area Council’s Good Turn for America program, Scouts from across the council are encouraged to collect all sorts of items which are distributed for use in area shelters.

The door-to-door drive is conducted by Scouts who distribute door hangers in their communities on Saturday, April 10.  On the following Saturday, April 17, the Scouts should return to the same neighborhoods to collect any donations.  Following that collection, all items that the Scouts collect are to be dropped off at one of two council collection sites (listed below).  Later in the day, the items will be sorted and distributed to representatives of area shelters.

Our area shelters have many needs, so several different items are collected as part of this drive. Examples of the shelter’s needs include:

  • Hair brushes
  • Hairspray
  • Gel
  • Shampoo and other toiletries
  • Towels
  • Washcloths
  • Twin sheet sets
  • Pillows
  • Laundry baskets
  • Laundry detergent
  • Plastic totes
  • Garbage bags
  • Dish detergent
  • Toilet paper
  • Flashlights
  • Double A batteries
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Paper products
  • Art supplies
  • Light bulbs
  • Alarm clocks
  • Baby supplies
  • Phone or grocery cards
  • Mass transit passes

Please note that this is not a clothing drive.

Door hangers were available at February roundtables.  They are also available in the York-Adams Area Council Scout Shop or by contacting your district executive. Thank you note door hangers are also available for Scouts to leave behind for any households which make donations.
