It's Not Too Late For Your Son to Join Cub Scouts!

Cub Scout & MomDon't miss out on the fun!  It isn't too late to have your son join Cub Scouts.

If you want your son to have some fun, excitement, outdoor opportunities, and a chance to participate in a program in which he doesn't always have to win - instead, he learns about "Do Your Best!" and how to be to be helpful to others - then we have just the program for you.

Cub Scouting is a home- and neighborhood-centered program designed to support and encourage quality family involvement for boys in the first through fifth grades. Each Cub Scout learns to respect his home, country and other people.

Many of the local Cub Scout packs are just getting underway this fall and they'd love to welcome additional families in their activities.  There are a variety of opportunities to join Cub Scouts upcoming this fall in your area.

We invite you to spend a little time here on our web site learning about Cub Scouting can offer your son.  For details on joining a Cub Scout pack in your area, please contact a member of the council staff using our e-mail form.

New Trail Guide Available for
Gettysburg Historic Trails

The booklets for the Gettysburg Heritage Trails program have been revised. The updates reflect the changes that have come about with the new visitors’ center which opened at the beginning of the summer. A number of projects have been completed and a few others are underway, all aimed at restoring the battlefield to conditions more like those during the Civil War.

The York-Adams Area Council, along with the National Park Service and the Gettysburg National Military Park/Eisenhower National Historic Site, are pleased to offer Scouting groups the opportunity to participate in the Gettysburg Heritage Trail Program.

The program includes stops at various historical sites, two hiking trails through the battlefield at Gettysburg, a walking tour of historic downtown Gettysburg, and a tour of the Eisenhower National Historic Site. In total, there are five components to the program. The current recognition patches and trail medal remain unchanged.

Scouting Alumni - Reconnect Today

BSA Alumni LogoRemember growing up . . . you were proud to be a Boy Scout.  With each Boy Scout rank advancement came new challenges, new adventures, and many times, new friends to share your experiences with.

As a BSA alumni, former Boy Scouts now share memories that will last forever.  Do you remember the smell of wood smoke and great food sitting by the fire at the Boy Scout camp?  How about half cooked/half burnt food and a wet sleeping bag?

Even better still were all the great hiking, fishing and swimming trips that Scouting introduced you to?  Remember all the neat wildlife you tracked and learned about?  Maybe you might remember the time the wildlife tracked your Boy Scout troop instead?  No one ever remembers those BSA campouts when everything went smoothly and the weather was perfect.

Tell us about your favorite Boy Scout experience and reconnect with your past.

When you sign up, we'll keep you up to date on what the Boy Scouts of America is doing in your community or your hometown today.  Find out how you can get re-involved with the same great youth leadership program you remember, the Boy Scouts of America!

With the BSA's 100th anniversary celebration just around the corner in 2010, there's never been a better time for all of our Scouting alumni to get involved - take that first step!

Units Can Earn
Free Rank Advancements

BSA Logo

Don’t forget the opportunity to earn free rank advancement! To be eligible for free advancement for the 2009 calendar year, a unit must earn Centennial Quality Unit status during this year and re-charter with at least one more youth then last year at year-end.

The requirements for Centennial Quality relate to leader training, unit membership, unit activities, and re-chartering on time. The summer is a good time to make sure that progress is being made on each item. Units can consult the council’s program planning guide and council calendar for a schedule of training events and additional information.
