New Gettysburg Historic Trails
Patches a Smashing Success
The York-Adams Area Council is pleased to announce a brand-new design
for the main and segment patches earned by Scouts participating in the historic
trails program. The new patch was designed to take full advantage of
improvements in the patch-making process to create a stirring design that
every Scout will be proud to display on their uniform.
The overall
requirements of the program itself have not changed, only the recognition
patches that participants can earn. The level of detail in the
new patch has been significantly enhanced and pricing on the new main patch
and segments will remain the same as the current patch and segments.
The York-Adams Area Council, along with the National Park Service and the
Gettysburg National Military Park/Eisenhower National Historic Site, are
pleased to offer Scouting groups the opportunity to participate in the
Gettysburg Heritage Trail Program.
The program includes stops at various historical sites, two hiking trails
through the battlefield at Gettysburg, a walking tour of historic downtown
Gettysburg, and a tour of the Eisenhower National Historic Site. In total,
there are five components to the program.

KAC & YAAC Executive Boards Approve
Recommendation to Consolidate
On January 19, the executive board in York-Adams Area Council unanimously approved the joint study group’s recommendation that the two councils consolidate by merger.
The next day, January 20, the executive board in Keystone Area Council was also unanimous in its approval of that recommendation.
The next step in the process that could result in the two councils coming together as one will be special council meetings in both councils on Wednesday, February 24.
At these special meetings, voting members (chartered organization representatives and council members-at-large) will be asked to vote to approve or reject the consolidation of the two councils.
In the case of bad weather on February 24, voting will take place on Thursday, February 25.
Packets regarding these special council meetings were mailed to voting members in both councils on Friday, January 22.
A series of information meetings to be held in both councils regarding the
proposed consolidation are being scheduled. These meetings are intended to
provide comprehensive information for all Scouting volunteers, as well as the
voting members in both councils. Please check the
complete schedule of meeting
dates and locations.
The Study Group's reports and supporting documentation are posted on the consolidation website for all persons interested in reviewing it.

Thanks for A Record-Setting
2009 Fall Popcorn Sale
The 2009 popcorn sale was a huge success, with over $480,000 of popcorn,
candles, and magazine subscriptions being sold in the council. In retail
sales, this is an increase of over $60,000.
This year’s sale marked the first year that the council sold popcorn from
Campmasters, a company which won council-wide taste tests conducted earlier
in the year. This is the second year that units had the option of
selling the Touch of Elegance candles.
The top-selling units in each district were:
- First Capital: Pack 39, $29,470
- Indian Steps: Pack 28, $22,460
- Blue & Grey: Pack 77, $11,902
Each of these units will be awarded the “kernel cup” which is a
travelling trophy for the units that sell the most popcorn in each district.
Nine units from across the council had total sales totaling over $10,000.
Each of these units earned the special “Grand Slam” bonus.
